What about McLaren? A few days ago we knew the McLaren 570S Coupé, the first sports car in a new range called McLaren Sports Series. And when we had barely had time to digest it, and show you our impressions live, the British arrive and surprise us, again, with the McLaren 540C Coupe, which is nothing more than an even cheaper and slightly less powerful version, with 540 hp, of the previous one. For everything else it is exactly the same car. What will differentiate this McLaren 540C Coupé from the 570S Coupé?
Although its power and performance are hardly diminished, the objective of the McLaren 540C is to become a more accessible model than the 570S, and the rest of the McLaren range.
The first big difference is in its price. According to UK rates, of the £ 143,250 for the 570S Coupé, the McLaren 540C would come in at just £ 126,000. Basically those are the prices of two of the models with which McLaren has proposed to compete, the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Porsche 911 Turbo, to dry, respectively.
A difference that translated into euros would be approximately € 24,000. That without taking into account other important factors, such as the tax treatment that this car receives, and the taxes with which it is levied, in each country.
Between McLaren 540C and 570S there will be slight aesthetic changes, very subtle, on the outside.
For everything else, the McLaren 540C Coupé remains exactly the same as a McLaren 570S Coupé. Empty, it will weigh 1,311 kilograms, will enjoy a 3,799cc V8 Twin Turbo engine, 540 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 540 Nm between 3,500 and 6,500 rpm. With this engine you will be able to reach 320 km / h and practice 0 to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds and 0 to 200 km / h in 10.5 seconds. His numbers remain high-flying. Its price, more restrained than in the rest of the McLaren range.
It will also retain its carbon fiber monocoque chassis, created to make it the most practical and usable McLaren. According to McLaren, the visibility would have improved a lot, with a driving position designed for day to day. Although it will continue to maintain details as aggressive as its scissor doors.
The McLaren 540C Coupé will be differentiated with a specific body kit, with exclusive channels on the front, and differences in the finishes of the rear diffuser and the side panels. In any case, it will keep its retractable spoiler, its 19 “front and 20” rear alloy wheels – albeit with a specific design – and its adaptive suspension system.
