On the occasion of the Detroit Auto Show Jaguar has presented the renewal of the Jaguar F-Type and F-Type Coupé range for 2018. The sports car of the British brand is updated by adding interesting technologies such as the ReRun system in collaboration with GoPro or the launch of a special edition under the name Jaguar F-Type 400 Sport. At the same time, design and equipment changes have been made to bring the Jaguar F-Type up to date.
The Jaguar F-Type is updated but bets on keeping its essence intact
In the exterior design section, the Jaguar F-Type shows slight brushstrokes that will make it very difficult to distinguish one generation from another. On the front is where we find the most profound changes with a redesign that affects the side air intakes that are now bigger and protagonists, like the new Full-Led optics that debut a new interior design, although they maintain the lines of the previous headlights and the daytime running light in the shape of a “J”.
Inside, the changes are equally sparse, but they have occurred in vital aspects to bring the British sports car up to date. In this way, Jaguar expands the offer of materials and finishes to offer a greater degree of personalization in the interior, launches the new Touch Pro multimedia interface and as the main novelty we have the arrival of some new sports seats made of magnesium that save 8 Kg and they promise a better performance in grip and comfort, in addition to expanding the possibilities of regulation thanks to their greater lightness and lower volume.
In the technical section, no modifications have been made, keeping the same V6 and V8 gasoline engines supercharged by volumetric compressor. Curiously, the change that has occurred is the removal of rear-wheel drive setup for V8 engines, something that will force customers of the R and SVR versions to install the all-wheel drive system. The manual gearbox option remains in this update for the 340 and 380 hp versions, the rest of the range being linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox by torque converter and sequential control.
The special edition 400 Sport is the big news, although it will only be available for a limited time
During the first year of launch of the new Jaguar F-Type 2018, there will be a special edition called Jaguar F-Type 400 Sport that has a revision of the V6 engine to reach 400 hp and also adds specific customization elements.
Where there are changes will be in the range with the arrival of the R-Dynamic finish that is located in the middle zone of the F-Type offering. In this way, the range will be structured as follows: F-Type, F-Type R-Dynamic, F-Type R, F-Type SVR. The R-Dynamic trim will only be available on the 340 and 380 hp V6 engines, while the most performing model in the F-Type range will remain the Jaguar F-Type SVR with a 575 hp 5.0 V8 Supercharged engine.
