Mercedes completely renew the Mercedes ML, so much so that it is no longer called the ML, it is now called the Mercedes GLE and of course it has a high-flying variant signed by AMG ready to face off with the BMW X5 M. Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4Matic and the even more rendering version, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic and they do it with 557 and 585 horses respectively.
The AMG version of the GLE will be available with 557 or 585 horsepower, both with a 5.5-liter biturbo V8.
We will know it by its bumper, by that front bumper with a splitter integrated at mid-height which Mercedes has baptized as “A-Wing”. Its grill, with a single double slat, will also give it away, as well as the rear bumper with the 4 exhaust outlets de rigueur flanking its diffuser.
As standard have 20 inch wheels accompanied by some tires in sizes 265/45, being optional a provision of tires of 21 inches with a tire size of 295/35.
Of course we will also recognize it by its roar, by the roar of mechanics 5.5-liter biturbo V8 that lies under its hood developing a power of 557 horses at 5,750 rpm in the “basic” variant and 585 horses at 5,500 rpm in the alternative S, powers that come from the hand of a pair of 700 Nm between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm in the first case and 760 Nm between 1,750 and 5,250 rpm in the second.
Prestationally they trace almost the acceleration, finding us with a 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds for the GLE 63 and 4.2 seconds for the GLE 63 S, reaching in both cases a limited maximum speed of 250 km / h or 280 km / h if they have the optional AMG Driver’s Package. Both mark a consumption of 11.8 l / 100 km with CO2 emissions of 278 g / km.
As everything is not power and as on the other hand it is to be imagined, these variants have a specific set-up being among the changes typical for these versions with an AMG all-wheel drive system, the AMG Performance 4Matic with a power distribution between axles of 40:60 or a AMG adaptive specific suspension among other changes.
Inside we receive some AMG sports seats with increased lateral grip and upholstered in Nappa leather, enhanced by contrasting stitching and AMG badges. Before us, from the driving position, a AMG steering wheel and after this one specific instrumentation with details in carbon fiber and a speedometer that reaches 320 km / h, with a red needle or the stopwatch function on the central display.
BMW X5 M: the rival to beat
These Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and 63 S will have to see the faces with a BMW X5 M that arrives with a 575-horsepower 4.4-liter Twin Power turbo V8, a model that has started in Spain since the 136,900 euros.
