After introducing us to the Shelby GT a few months ago – and its supercharged engine of almost 710 hp – Shelby American once again delights us with the launch of the Shelby Super Snake. A designation released in the 60s as a high-flying version of the Shelby Mustang GT500, whose present generation has not yet been launched. Although It is based on the Ford Mustang GT with a 5.0 V8 Coyote engineSomething tells me that the future GT500 will look a lot like this one car. A car that has between the eyebrows to the Dodge Hellcat … and very hungry.
More than 750 hp and a price of up to $ 88,199
The base car costs $ 33,200, to which Shelby adds the cost of the conversion, which is more than double its price for the more advanced package. For $ 49,999 over the cost of the Mustang GT Shelby offers the 650 hp package, but for $ 54,999 Shelby gives us a machine with a power greater than 750 hp. Major words in which engine preparation is one of the most important pages. Instead of using Ford Racing components, Shelby turns to Whipple or Kenne Bell for the new volumetric compressor.
The pistons and other internal components of the engine are suitably reinforced with Ford Racing parts, while Shelby is in charge of designing a cooling system to rise to the occasion. Thanks to that, the engine can produce more than 750 hp – Shelby does not give exact figures – and a torque probably close to 1,000 Nm. The cycle part of the car is reinforced with a carbon fiber driveshaft one-piece or high-performance Wilwood brakes, with six-piston calipers on the front axle and four-piston calipers on the rear axle.
A roll cage and five-point seatbelts are cool extras for junkies on the track.
Of course, the car is still manual, but a low-travel lever has been attached to the gearbox to make changes faster. Ford Racing supplies suspension hardware and other goodies dedicated to improving this Mustang’s cornering on steroids. The tires are a 20-inch WELD Racing Super Snake, shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that will suffer a lot from the stakes of the gigantic torque of this high-flying muscle car.
Aesthetically, it is as aggressive or more than a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The bonnet carries the two characteristic air intakes of the Super Snake and the body kit extends its aggressive image with new skirts and rear spoiler. This body kit can optionally be ordered in carbon fiber. The engine breathes through two gigantic twin tailpipes. Inside, specialist Katzkin re-upholsters the seats, while Shelby adds special logos and badges throughout.
